My name is Margaret Southard and I am a teacher. Just like all of you when my children were young I acted as their first teacher. We read together and counted together and studied the wild things in our back yard together. When they got old enough to go to school for their learning I realized that I was still a teacher so I went to school to become a “real” teacher.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and used it to teach kindergarten for a few years. Then I earned a master’s degree in literacy and taught in Head start for a few years. Finally, I took classes so I could work with students with disabilities. Now I am running my own early education program to put all my skills to good use. Teaching young children has become my passion, I don’t go to “work” each day, I go to “school” and I love it.
The second best thing about being a teacher (the first best is the children!) is I get to use all my other life interests on a regular basis. I love to read and write, sing and dance, cook and create, and I love to explore new things.
I can’t wait to meet all the new children who will be coming tour school!
