Miss Margaret

My name is Margaret Southard and I am a teacher. Just like all of you when my children were young I acted as their first teacher. We read together and counted together and studied the wild things in our back yard together. When they got old enough to go to school for their learning I realized that I was still a teacher so I went to school to become a “real” teacher.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and used it to teach kindergarten for a few years. Then I earned a master’s degree in literacy and taught in Head start for a few years. Finally, I took classes so I could work with students with disabilities. Now I am running my own early education program to put all my skills to good use. Teaching young children has become my passion, I don’t go to “work” each day, I go to “school” and I love it.

The second best thing about being a teacher (the first best is the children!) is I get to use all my other life interests on a regular basis. I love to read and write, sing and dance, cook and create, and I love to explore new things.

I can’t wait to meet all the new children who will be coming tour school!

Miss Kristen

My name is Kristen Pearce. I’m a certified special education teacher as well as a certified speech therapist. I found my love of working with children with disabilities when I was only 14 years old. At that age, I began volunteering in a group home for children with special needs.

I received my bachelor’s degree in communication disorders and worked as a speech therapist for four years. At the end of that fourth year I graduated with my masters degree in special education. At that point I worked at a residential school for children with disabilities as a special education teacher. I moved to the CNY area in 2007 and worked for an agency where I was able to provide both special education teacher services as well as speech therapy services.

The majority of my experience is with the preschool age, however I do have experience with children birth through 21 years. I have worked as a preschool liaison and consider my specialty to be with preschool aged children.
